Laid off
Posted by chrisgwinn on October 14, 2008
Some combination of the credit crunch, the usual startup risks and some less successful than hoped business initiatives has led my current employer to cut roughly a third of the company and cease most new development. I’m employed through the end of the month, then I get roughly a month’s worth of severance and accrued vacation.
Things are currently vacillating between freakout and feeling pretty good about the whole thing.
If you know anyone looking to hire development/architecture people in the Twin Cities, please let me know.

Dude, that sucks. Sorry to hear that.

Sorry. Been there, at least they gave you a few weeks to find something else. I remember getting laid off from the hospital where I worked around 1990. I took it personally. I figured that I was one of the ‘better’ employees and therefore immune to layoffs due to budget cuts etc. It was a slap in the face to find out that I was expendable just like everyone else. In the long run it worked out for the best but at the time that it happened it sucked. Something tells me that you won’t be looking for work for very long.

Chris, so sorry to hear that. How is the search coming along? In complete agreement with Murph – you won’t be a free radical for long.

The search seems to be going fairly well. I had an interview on Monday, with another one tomorrow and a few leads floating around. Seems likely that I’ll have some offers by the end of November.
